Odisha Shivers: Bhubaneswar Hits 22-Year Low as Cold Wave Intensifies

If you stepped out early this morning in Odisha, you probably felt that rare, biting chill. The state is currently in the grip of a severe cold wave that has shattered decade-old records.
Bhubaneswar recorded a shivering 9.2°C last night—its coldest temperature in 22 years. The last time the capital felt this cold was back in January 2004. But the situation is even more intense in Western Odisha. Jharsuguda saw the mercury plummet to 4.5°C, marking its coldest night in 73 years.
Commuters are facing a tough time as dense fog blankets the highways, drastically reducing visibility in the early hours. Drivers on the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar route are advised to use fog lights and drive cautiously. Even Rourkela reported an all-time low, while frost has been spotted in the interior districts.

ଆଜି ସକାଳେ ଯଦି ଆପଣ ଘରୁ ବାହାରି ଥିବେ, ତେବେ ନିଶ୍ଚିତ ଭାବେ ସେହି ହାଡ଼ଭଙ୍ଗା ଶୀତ ଅନୁଭବ କରିଥିବେ। ରାଜ୍ୟ ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନ ଏକ ଭୟଙ୍କର ଶୀତ ଲହରୀ (Cold Wave) କବଳରେ ରହିଛି, ଯାହା ଗତ କିଛି ଦଶନ୍ଧିର ରେକର୍ଡ ଭାଙ୍ଗି ଦେଇଛି।
ଗତ ରାତିରେ ଭୁବନେଶ୍ୱରର ତାପମାତ୍ରା ୯.୨ ଡିଗ୍ରୀ ସେଲସିୟସକୁ ଖସି ଆସିଥିଲା, ଯାହାକି ଗତ ୨୨ ବର୍ଷ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ରାଜଧାନୀର ସର୍ବନିମ୍ନ ତାପମାତ୍ରା ଅଟେ। ଶେଷଥର ପାଇଁ ୨୦୦୪ ଜାନୁଆରୀ ମାସରେ ରାଜଧାନୀବାସୀ ଏଭଳି ଶୀତ ଅନୁଭବ କରିଥିଲେ। କିନ୍ତୁ ପଶ୍ଚିମ ଓଡ଼ିଶାରେ ପରିସ୍ଥିତି ଆହୁରି ସଙ୍ଗିନ ରହିଛି। ଝାରସୁଗୁଡ଼ାରେ ପାରଦ ୪.୫ ଡିଗ୍ରୀକୁ ଖସି ଆସିଛି, ଯାହାକି ଗତ ୭୩ ବର୍ଷର ରେକର୍ଡ ଭାଙ୍ଗିଛି।
ଘନ କୁହୁଡ଼ି ଯୋଗୁଁ ଯାତାୟାତରେ ବାଧା ସୃଷ୍ଟି ହୋଇଛି ଏବଂ ସକାଳ ସମୟରେ ରାଜପଥରେ ଦୃଶ୍ୟମାନ ଦୂରତା (visibility) ବହୁତ କମିଯାଇଛି। କଟକ-ଭୁବନେଶ୍ୱର ରାସ୍ତାରେ ଯାଉଥିବା ଚାଳକମାନଙ୍କୁ ଫଗ୍ ଲାଇଟ୍ (Fog lights) ବ୍ୟବହାର କରିବାକୁ ଏବଂ ସତର୍କତାର ସହ ଗାଡ଼ି ଚଳାଇବାକୁ ପରାମର୍ଶ ଦିଆଯାଇଛି। ରାଉରକେଲାରେ ମଧ୍ୟ ତାପମାତ୍ରା ଐତିହାସିକ ସ୍ତରକୁ ଖସିଥିବା ବେଳେ ରାଜ୍ୟର କିଛି ଆଭ୍ୟନ୍ତରୀଣ ଜିଲ୍ଲାରେ ତୁଷାରପାତ ଦେଖିବାକୁ ମିଳିଛି।
